SOUNDS OF SUMMER SERIES 2017

Rockford Park District’s Sounds of Summer is a free outdoor concert and performance series at three locations, and is designed to meet the diverse entertainment interests of the community by providing a variety of musical genres and entertainment performances. The series is comprised of Music in the Park at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell; Live at Levings and Domingos en el Parque at Levings Park, and Tunes on the Terrace at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens. The Sounds of Summer Concert Series is one of the many free events and programs provided by the Rockford Park District. Following are scheduled performances for the next two weeks:

TUNES ON THE TERRACE PRESENTED BY SAVANT CAPITAL MANAGEMENT, AUGUST 16-23 – Come relax and enjoy diverse performances by local musicians on the outdoor Rockford Area Realtors Riverview Terrace at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, 1354 N. 2nd St., Rockford, IL. This free weekly Wednesday series is presented by Savant Capital Management, and features jazz, easy listening, folk, and more, through September 13; performances are 6-8:30 p.m.; food options are available, as well as beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) from Prairie St. Brewing Co., for purchase 5-8:30 p.m. (No rain site for Tunes on the Terrace events.)

· Wednesday, Aug. 23 Backroads Trio (acoustic light rock and country)

This year, stay after Tunes on the Terrace to see the Gardens in a whole new light! Bruce Munro: LIGHT exhibit viewable from dusk to 11 p.m. The exhibition is Munro’s eighth large-scale garden exhibition in the U.S. The gardens and Conservatory provide a stunning backdrop for eight sculptures, including Munro’s iconic “Field of Light” and “Water-Towers.” Two new works will also debut – “Sun,” a monumental globe suspended inside the Conservatory, and “Don’s Flamingos,” a playful homage to the designer of the pink lawn flamingo, Don Featherstone. DOMINGOS EN EL PARQUE, AUGUST 20 – The first of two free Sunday performances for all ages presenting the music, arts, and culture of Rockford’s Latino community, featuring Mexican, Tejano, and Caribbean music. Shows are held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Levings Park, 1420 S. Pierpont Ave., Rockford, IL. A talent competition will be held 2:30-4 p.m., followed by musical performances.

– Banda la Enkantadora with special guest Ricardo Roman (15-member group playing traditional banda music)

– Grupo Bachata Blue (bachata, meringue, cumbia, and salsa styles)
